I'm fairly certain it's pronounced male -strum, not "mile-strum".

What you speak of in Yellstone is a gEYEzer. And old man is said to be a geezer. Just a point to help. Enjoy most of you work.

I am Russian. For me it is the same geezer, geyser… whatever😀

Great, informative video, but as you surely realize now, in the USA the word in #6 is generally pronounced "guy-zer". Maelstrom can be pronounced "mile-strom" or "male-strum" (at least 2 videos on "pronounce maelstrom" on YouTube). Not a word we here often hear in the high desert 🙂

Stay away from those geezers! Interaction with those old grumpy dotards will only lead to calamity.

    damn geezers lol…..its pronounced GUY-ZER

  16. Sarreq Teryx

    June 20, 2018 at 9:03 pm

Guy-zers, not geezers. Geezers are a whole separate problem in Yellowstone…

    and also:

    Mail-strom, not mile-strom. Mile-stroms don't sound particularly dangerous, but I could be wrong…

lol do Brits say Geysers differently? Hearing Simon pronounce it "Gee-zer" instead of "Guy-ser" like we do in America is very weird and hard to ignore lol. Could someone answer this for me? I need to know if Simon simply mispronounced the term or if they really do say it differently across the pond!

Just asked one of my British friends and he said virtually no one pronounces geyser as "geezer." Though it is known to happen by a select few.

Young women are especially vulnerable to dirty, old geezers attacking!

Simon has got to be pulling our legs with that pronunciation. "Maelstrom", on the other hand, is a little more understandable. I've always heard [MAL-strom] or [MALE-strom]. [MILE-strom] is a new one on me.

"Geezer Country" is now a phrase. Thanks Simon for letting me know about the dangers of Florida's many retirement communities!

Geezers! Haha. I bet south Florida is dangerous with all those retirees, aka geezers!

  41. WhisperingShade

Love how enunciation of things are so wildly differed around the world.
Way I was always taught to say it growing up in the US was G-eye-Zer. G-EE-zer is a defamatory to an old man, and G-ay-zer is an on-looker.

So if you have a geezer gazing at a geyser : Then you've got an old fart looking at a spray of Old Faithful.

    "Guy-zer," not "geezer."
